Tour the Wild Peaks of the Saguenay
Whether you’re leaving from Montréal (5h) or Québec City (2h30), or even a bit further from Ottawa (6h30) or Plattsburgh (5h30), the Saguenay-Lac-Saint-Jean region is a prime destination for ski touring. With lots of snows and stunning vistas, it’s the place to be! Our team has put together a 5-day itinerary (4 ski days plus travel), perfect for a long weekend or a full week of vacation!

Day 1 – Öbois Charlevoix
On your way to the Saguenay, stop for the night at Öbois Charlevoix. By booking a stay, FQME members get privileged access to the Montagne des Taillis, a limited-admission site that maintains exceptional snow quality. With 4 glades and 250m (820ft) of vertical, skiers and splitboarders will find memorable lines!
Day 2 – Sommets du Fjord
In the heart of a charming Québec village, nestled between picturesque mountains and impressive cliff faces, lies the trailhead to the remarkable backcountry ski area of the Sommets du Fjord. With gladed runs rated intermediate to expert, this unique site is worth the visit. Sleep at the Auberge du Jardin and walk across town to start your ski day!
Day 3 – Mont Edouard
For your third day, you can continue exploring the Sommets du Fjord or drive 15 minutes to the nearest ski resort: Mont Édouard! In addition to some awesome varied terrain inbounds, the resort boasts a huge touring sector, with 6 different glades and 20km (12.4 miles) of trails.
Day 4 – Mont des Allemands
Ready for an adventure? Located 42km (26 miles) down the Chemin Des Passes-Dangereuses, Mont des Allemands is a hidden gem north of Lac-Saint-Jean. It has steep glades and spectacular views. Make the most of your stay by renting a cabin nearby and skiing again the next day. While we highly recommend this area, it is quite remote. If it feels like too much driving, stay at Mont Édouard, explore more of the Sommets du Fjord or try one of our smaller local sites (see Day 5)!
Day 5 – Heading home
It’s your fifth and final day. Will you head back to Mont des Allemands for a few more laps or hit the road right after breakfast? That said, your adventure does not have to end right there, as you’ll pass by several of our community sites near Chicoutimi. These local areas are steeped in the winter tradition of the Saguenay. You could visit Mont Jacob, Les Montagnes Bleues du Tableau (Sainte-Rose-du-Nord), and Alma (new site in 2025-26)! If your goal is to ski as many FQME sites as possible, this is your chance!
